Challenges
Our client, a leading business consulting and investment firm was using a shared infrastructure that offered a common workspace to manage day-to-day business operations. With limited control over the IT infrastructure, Client’s business expansion plans were faced with many bottlenecks. The infrastructure was not scalable, limited access to multiple systems and incurring high cost of operations. Applications deployed on local server were not scalable to meet instant business demands and reduced overall efficiency of the enterprise.
Solution Highlights
Client collaborated with StarOne IT to implement Amazon AWS based EC2 systems with CAL licensing for multiple access. The EC2 cloud web service provided secure, re-sizable compute capacity in the cloud. Amazon EC2 enables to scale up or down to handle changes in requirements or spikes in popularity, reducing the need to forecast traffic. The EC2 service offered flexibility in configurations; letting users to choose memory size, CPU, and boot partition size optimized for the OS they choose.
Benefits
The cloud services are free from capital expenditure. Client now just have to pay as they operate it and enjoy the model based on the ASW subscription plan. The availability has significantly improved after moving to cloud, maintaining an up-time of 99.9%. The users across Kerala can now get onto the applications needed from anywhere and sometimes even on off-line mode. No more payments to be made for unused infrastructure. It offers flexible configurations with full control to turned off, up or down as per the circumstances of the user. Cloud computing is helping client to reduce their carbon footprint as they utilize only the amount of resources they need, which helps them to avoid any over-provisioning leading to no waste of energy.
